Kai Bailey

Hello, I'm Kai.

I am a Software Engineer at Google based in New York City, currently working on post-training for Gemini. I have focused on enhancing model performance in factuality, grounding, multi-turn reasoning, and visual search. I have landed improvements across SFT, RL, Reward Models and Evals. Before joining the Gemini team, I researched retrieval-enhanced transformer architectures.

Prior to that, I was part of Google Research, where I spent a year and a half trying to understand US Healthcare IT infrastructure. I built ingestion tools for FHIR Bulk Data APIs, a Clinical Quality Language (CQL) execution engine for analyzing healthcare data at scale, and infrastructure for Care Studio, a nice UI for electronic health records.

I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Alberta.
